WSOP Tournament Down to 18 Players After Major Eliminations

The WSOP tournament with a $40,000 buy-in has reached a critical point with only 18 players remaining. The third day of the tournament saw several high-profile eliminations that have significantly reduced the player count.

Key Eliminations

Andrew "good2cu" Robl was one of the first to be eliminated. He moved all-in from the small blind, which was called by Greg Raymer on the big blind. Robl's 6c 3h could not withstand Raymer's As 4d.

Frank Cassella faced a tough battle against Brian "sbrugby" Townsend. With blinds at 12,000/24,000 and an ante of 3,000, Townsend opened the betting with a raise to 60,000, which Cassella called from the big blind. On the flop of Kd Qd 2d, Cassella went all-in and was called by Townsend's Ac Ad. Cassella's Ks Js could not overcome Townsend's stronger hand.

David Chiu lost a significant hand to Alek Turelli. Chiu's Ah 7h was no match for Turelli's Qs Qd. This loss left Chiu with a much smaller stack.

Neil Channing was eliminated after losing to Isaac Haxton. The hand involved a triple all-in situation with Haxton ultimately winning with a stronger pair on the board.

Andy Black was eliminated after losing to Dan Stern. Black moved all-in with Ad Jc, which was called by Stern's Ah Kc. The flop of Ac Jd 6d added drama, but the turn Kc and river 5d sealed Black's fate.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
