WSOP Main Event Day 5: Key Players Advance with Strategic Moves

The fifth day of the WSOP Main Event began at noon on July 10, with 522 players returning to the tables. Isaac Haxton and Steven Chidwick, known for their technical and psychological prowess in No-Limit Hold'em, were seated at the same table. Greg Merson, a skilled WSOP champion, led one of the television tables.

Arseny Karmatsky crossed the 4 million mark without showing his cards. Minsun Lee raised 40,000 from the first position, and Arseny called from the middle. Joseph Ozimek squeezed with 145,000 from the button, and Arseny called. On the turn, Arseny check-raised to 1,550,000, and his opponent folded immediately.

Greg Merson employed a limping strategy to maximize his perceived skill advantage. William Pengelly raised to 200,000 with a straight, and Brian Arbo folded his set. Steven Chidwick lost a significant pot to Alessandro Predaroli, who had a better hand. Isaac Haxton showed strong play, winning several pots with good hands. Jeremy Cottler, who started the day with the second-largest stack, lost most of his chips in an unsuccessful bluff.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
