WSOP Main Event Sets Records, Faces Criticism Over Payouts and Organization

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event has set a new record for the number of participants, with 10,043 entries. The first prize for the WSOP main event is $12.1 million, $100,000 more than the $12 million won by Jamie Gold in 2006. The difference between the first and second prize is $5.6 million.

100-year-old Eugene Calden participated in the WSOP main event. Israeli player Idan The One lost his entire stack in two hands against Ruben Correia. Phil Hellmuth made a dramatic entrance with the help of Daniel Kates and 17 women.

Nicolas Rigby is a standout player known for his unorthodox style and consistent high placements. Organizers stopped the game 10 players short of the money bubble, causing frustration among participants.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
