WSOP Kicks Off with Controversies and High-Stakes Drama
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) started with the Champions Reunion tournament with a $5,000 buy-in. This new format features past champions playing a freeroll, with bounties awarded for eliminating each champion.
Daniel Negreanu's vlog from the WSOP gained 140,000 views in less than a day. In the 40-minute video, Daniel showed his new home, shared footage from a $25k draft, and played poker with Jonathan Morcheso, a player from the Vegas Golden Knights who started the first tournament with the phrase 'Shuffle Up and Deal'.
In the casino employees' tournament, a Brazilian player, Fernando Machedo, was mistakenly allowed to play and had to leave after 8 hours. Another player left the table during a hand and was warned. Additionally, professional player Mike Holz, who won a bracelet in an online tournament in 2022, participated in the tournament for casino employees, causing controversy.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
