Controversial Move by Sam Soverel Eliminates Dmitry Yurasov from WSOP High Roller Event
Dmitry Yurasov was eliminated from the final table of the WSOP 2019 high roller event due to a controversial move by Sam Soverel. The tournament, which had a $50,000 buy-in, saw Yurasov exit in 4th place, receiving $458,138.
The incident occurred during a hand where Soverel folded his cards out of turn, allowing Ben Heit to call without worrying about an overcall from Soverel. Soverel apologized immediately after the incident, but the move sparked a heated debate among poker players and commentators.
Many players and commentators, including Ali Nejad and Vasily Firsov, agreed that Soverel should have received a penalty. Isaac Haxton suggested that Soverel should be disqualified and receive the prize for 4th place. However, Soverel's apology was not convincing to everyone, with some players and commentators suggesting that his actions were intentional. Garry Yaroshovsky, who knows Soverel personally, believes that Soverel's actions were unintentional and that he is not the type of player to intentionally make such a move.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
