WSOP 2017: Summer Finale and Major Changes Announced

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2017 is set to introduce several significant changes, including a summer finale and expanded television coverage. The main tournament will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2 from the first day, with a 30-minute delay. This change aims to attract a broader audience and keep up with the evolving digital media landscape.

Expanded TV Coverage

From July 8 to 17, viewers can watch the game on TV with a 30-minute delay. Approximately 40 hours of broadcasts are planned, with 2-4 hours of coverage each day. The final table will be played from July 20 to 22 and will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2. The November Nine format will continue until 2020, with the final table now in July.

Rule Changes

One of the notable rule changes involves the time for calling a manager. Previously, players had to wait at least two minutes before calling a manager. Now, any player can call a manager at any time, and the final 10 seconds will be counted aloud. This change is part of an effort to streamline the game and reduce delays.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
