WSOP 2012: David 'Doc' Archt Wins First WSOP Bracelet at 66
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2012 saw some remarkable victories, including a 66-year-old doctor winning his first WSOP bracelet. David 'Doc' Archt, a urologist from Philadelphia, took home $211,921 after winning the 13th tournament, a limit hold'em event with a $1,500 buy-in. Archt, known as 'Doc' due to his profession, has had a notable career in poker, including performing a successful vasectomy on prominent limit hold'em specialist Matt Glanz.
Brendon Shafer, a 31-year-old professional poker player from the West Coast, won the 14th tournament, a shootout no-limit hold'em event with a $1,500 buy-in. Shafer, who has shown excellent results in both online and offline tournaments, decided to leave poker and join the U.S. Army. His victory in the shootout event was his first and last tournament at the WSOP 2012 before joining the army.
Adam Friedman, a 30-year-old professional poker player, won the 15th tournament, a stud hi-lo championship with a $5,000 buy-in. Friedman, who moved to Las Vegas from Ohio for poker, started his poker career with the main event of the WSOP 2005. He won his first WSOP bracelet by defeating Todd Branson, son of poker legend Doyle Branson, in the heads-up. Other notable players at the final table included Phil Ivey and Brin Kenni.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
