WPT Shooting Stars: Stars Advance to Day 2 with Notable Eliminations

The WPT Shooting Stars tournament on PartyPoker attracted 483 entries, raising $51,200 for COVID-19 vaccine development. The event featured a star-studded lineup, including celebrities from various fields such as poker, show business, and sports.

Anatoly Filatov and Vadim Shlez bet $1,000 each on who would advance further in the tournament. Both players failed to reach the prize money, but Filatov made a memorable play against Luke Mabbott. Mabbott, known for his appearance on the reality TV show 'Ostrov Lyubvi,' attempted a bluff with a queen-high on a flop that included a king and an ace. Filatov successfully called the bluff, eliminating Mabbott from the tournament.

Snooker champion Mark Williams is still in the tournament and has a match in the World Snooker Championship on Friday. Williams, a three-time world champion, faces a financial dilemma: winning the WPT Shooting Stars could net him more money than reaching the quarterfinals of the Snooker Championship. However, the prestige of the Snooker Championship is significantly higher.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
