Wild Side Bets and Gambling Stories from Poker Players

Poker players are known for their creativity, especially when it comes to side bets. These bets can range from the mildly amusing to the downright outrageous. One player proposed a $100 coin flip bet during a $2/$5 game, eventually lowering it to $50 and then $25. Another player proposed a $5 bounty on the head of a fly that was bothering everyone at the table.

Time bets are also a popular form of side betting. Players contribute a big blind each and the closest guess to the actual time wins all the chips. This not only adds an element of fun but also ensures that everyone is engaged in the game.

During the 2008 World Series of Poker, Lane Flack and Gavin Smith were seen flipping coins for $10,000 in the cash zone. The manager eventually kicked them out, but they continued their coin flips in the hallway. Another notable side bet involved a $500 wager that the middle card on the flop would be a letter card (J, Q, K). The bet turned into a heated argument when one player insisted that the 'WSOP' logo on the card counted as a letter.
