WCOOP-2016: Canada Edges Out Russia, Jonas Laak Wins Main Event
The WCOOP-2016 poker series has concluded, with Canada narrowly edging out Russia in the number of tournament wins. Russia ranked fourth in terms of participants, behind Canada, the UK, and Brazil, and fifth in prize money, largely due to fewer successes in no-limit hold'em.
Jonas Laak emerged as the champion of the main event, earning a significant $1,517,541. The second-place finisher was a British player under the nickname 0409479, who earned $1,101,278. The identity of this player remains a mystery, but it is known that Daniel Negreanu is familiar with him.
Denis Strebkov had a remarkable run, winning two tournaments during WCOOP-2016, including the HORSE tournament. Doug Polk also made a notable appearance, finishing second in tournament #53, earning $455,000. Polk's performance was highlighted by a key double against €urop€an, which helped him cover his WCOOP expenses.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
