Vyacheslav Fetisov Defends Poker as Intellectual Sport
Vyacheslav Fetisov, the newly appointed head of the CSKA hockey club, has criticized the ban on poker in Russia.
In an interview with AllHockey.ru, Fetisov stated that poker should not be banned because it is an intellectual sport similar to chess or dominoes.
Fetisov was the only state official to publicly support poker in the past months. He also mentioned that the $40,000 tournament at WSOP will not be held in 2010, according to Harrah's representative Seth Paltanski. The Caesars Cup, a show match between Europe and America, will be held before the main tournament of WSOP Europe in London. Dermot Blaine won the main tournament of the APPT festival in Macau, while Vladimir Geshkenbein won the high roller tournament.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
