UIGEA Law to Take Effect in the US, Impacting Online Poker Players
The UIGEA law, which prohibits online gambling, will take effect in the US on June 1, 2010.
Congressman Barney Frank stated that there will be no further delays to the UIGEA law. The law places responsibility on banks to determine what constitutes illegal online gambling.
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) had previously sought a delay to the UIGEA law. John Pappas, leader of PPA, stated that the UIGEA law lacks clear definitions and will cause confusion. Senator John Kyl from Arizona blocked presidential appointments to achieve his goals regarding UIGEA. Barney Frank plans to continue discussions on UIGEA this spring, possibly in May.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
