Tom Dwan Left Out of Poker Hall of Fame in 2009

The Poker Hall of Fame was created by Benny Binion in 1979 to preserve the names of talented players for future generations. In 2009, WSOP President Jeffrey Pollack announced a change in the nomination process for the Poker Hall of Fame, allowing public nominations. Tom Dwan was one of the ten candidates for the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009.

However, the WSOP announced that despite their respect for Dwan, one of the most remarkable young players, he does not currently meet all the necessary criteria for induction into the Poker Hall of Fame. The criteria include competing with recognized masters, playing high-stakes games, having stable successes, earning the respect of peers, and passing the test of time. The WSOP expressed their desire for Dwan to succeed and to reconsider his candidacy if he passes the test of time.

The Poker Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on November 7, 2009, during the lunch break of the World Series of Poker final table. The names of the inductees will be announced during a special ceremony.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
