Tom Dwan's Million-Dollar Challenge and Al Pacino's Poker Plans with Dr. Death
Tom Dwan, known as 'Durrrr', has set a new challenge for himself: to win more than $10 million in a year. This comes after a tough 2009 where he lost $4.5 million. However, Dwan has shown remarkable recovery, winning $7.3 million by April 2010. His impressive comeback includes playing over 150,000 hands this year, with most of his wins coming from Pot-Limit Omaha.
Dwan's famous 'Durrrr Challenge' involves playing 50,000 hands against an opponent. The first to accept these conditions was Patrick Antonius, but their match has been dragging on, with nearly 17,000 hands left to play. Dwan is currently leading by about $2 million. In an interview with the magazine 'Blef', Dwan apologized for the slow pace of the match and promised that future matches would be completed in two to three months.
Meanwhile, poker pro Phil Ivey has made a $5 million bet with Howard Lederer. The bet is that Ivey will win two WSOP bracelets in the next two years. Ivey, who has seven bracelets, needs to add just two more to his collection by the end of 2011 to win the bet. Daniel Negreanu, who leaked the bet to the press, believes Lederer is underestimating Ivey's chances. In a different development, actor Al Pacino plans to play poker with Dr. Jack Kevorkian, known as 'Dr. Death'. The two will meet in Detroit for a game, as both are big fans of poker.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
