Canadian Poker Pro Terence Chen Denied Entry to the USA

Terence “Unassigned” Chen, a Canadian poker professional specializing in limit hold'em, was denied entry to the USA twice within a week. Chen, who has total winnings of over $1,500,000, was attempting to enter the country for a championship and to train in martial arts.

Chen's notable achievements include winning two SCOOP tournaments in one day in 2009. His best results at the World Series of Poker include 2nd and 3rd places in different tournaments. Despite his success, Chen faced rigorous questioning and was ultimately denied entry due to concerns about his intentions to stay in the USA.

In his blog, Chen detailed his experiences at the border, including extensive questioning and requests for documentation. Despite providing all necessary papers, he was denied entry both times. Chen has since decided to avoid the USA in the future, expressing frustration with the treatment he received.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
