Stake Wins License to Enter Alberta's iGaming Market

Stake has officially acquired a license to run its gaming business in Alberta, Canada. The license approval by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) means that Stake is now available in a second province.

Stake Canada Country Manager Kris Abbott explained that the company has focused on building one of the world’s most recognizable brands in the online gaming space by virtue of how it does things differently. Stake Canada Board Member Birgitte Sand has also welcomed the monumental achievement that is securing licensing in Alberta, further proof of the company’s commitment to Canada.

This development follows Stake's successful entry into Ontario and marks a significant step in the company's global expansion strategy, particularly in Canada.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
