A Poker Night with a Twist: My Experience in a Sport Poker Club
Recently, Koscience shared his experience playing poker in a sport poker club on Vasilievsky Island. Sport poker clubs have recently started appearing in major cities across Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kazan. The author paid 1,000 rubles for the buy-in and received additional chips for being one of the first 15 players to arrive.
Players earn points for making it into the prize pool and for knockouts, with the top 27 players qualifying for a final tournament held at a base outside the city. The author noted that many of the players were young and intelligent, with a significant number of young women present. The atmosphere was friendly and supportive, with players helping each other out.
The author observed that the dealers in the club also played in the tournaments, receiving free re-entries as compensation. Players took turns shuffling a second deck of cards during the tournament, with the dealer collecting and redistributing the decks. This unique setup added to the overall experience, making it a memorable night for the author.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
