Ruth Evans Appointed as New Chair of UK Gambling Commission

Ruth Evans, a prominent UK regulatory figure, has been appointed as the new Chair of the UK Gambling Commission, succeeding Charles Counsell. Evans will assume her role on September 30, 2026, bringing over 40 years of leadership experience to the position.

Evans' extensive career includes serving as Chair of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, a body overseeing public funds by regulating MPs’ expenses and pay. She has also held the position of Chair of Stop Scams UK, where she plays a central role in the collaboration between businesses, technology companies, telecom operators, and banks.

Evans will be remunerated at £85,000 ($115,100) per year for a time commitment of two days per week. The DCMS Secretary of State Lisa Nandy welcomed the appointment, stating that Evans will support a sustainable, thriving industry with the essential protections needed to prevent harm.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
