Poker Player's Emotional Turmoil After Losing Streak

The author first managed to keep his entire salary without sharing it with creditors. He was happy with his girlfriend and enjoyed his life. However, in April, he encountered a significant losing streak in his poker games, which led to a state of tilt. He had never experienced such a losing streak before and was not prepared for the emotional turmoil that followed.

He played a heads-up match against J. Braddock, a regular player on the 3/6 Ongame. The author had a strange desire to lose everything, believing that bankruptcy would bring him freedom from the emotional rollercoaster of poker. He wanted to see what would happen if he played against J. Braddock, hoping to either win back his losses or lose everything and take a break from poker.

In one of the first hands, the author called a 3-bet with 8d 7d and hit a straight on the flop against an overpair, doubling his stack to $1,200. Later, they went all-in pre-flop, with the author holding Jx Jx and his opponent holding Ax Kx. The author's emotional state and desire to lose everything influenced his gameplay, leading to a significant loss.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
