Poker Players Championship: Early Days Highlights and Key Moments
The Poker Players Championship, officially named The Poker Player's Championship, has started with a mix of surprises and notable performances. The tournament, which should have been called The Poker Players' Championship, began with 116 participants, far fewer than the expected 150.
Alexander Kostritsin, a favorite in the tournament, is currently leading. He has shown stability and is among the group leaders. Dan Shack, a millionaire, finished in last place after a series of unlucky hands. During a pot-limit Omaha round, Shack made a check-raise against Daniel 'djk123' Kelly, who responded with an all-in. Shack, holding a set of nines without a flush draw, called despite the effective stacks being nearly 300 BB. Kelly had a nut straight with a redraw, securing the win. Shack's elimination was confirmed in the next hand.
Tom Dwan was also eliminated from the tournament after a series of bad hands, including one against Nikolai Evdakov. Dwan, who arrived late, was helped by Daniel Negreanu but ultimately lost to Evdakov in a heads-up situation. After the first day, Eric Sagstrom led with only 6 players eliminated. Notable players like Andy Bloch and Erik Sagstrom are close behind. Kostritsin became the chip leader on the second day, eliminating several players including Arturo Diaz. However, his lead did not last as he lost to Phil Helmuth and Michael Binger. Kirk Morrison leads after two days, with notable players like Andy Bloch and Erik Sagstrom close behind.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
