Poker World Buzz: Liv Boeree's TEDx Talk, WSOP Rule Changes, and Phil Ivey's Legal Drama
Liv Boeree, a renowned poker player, recently took the stage at a TEDx conference in Manchester. She spoke about the application of mathematical probability in everyday life, drawing from her experiences as a professional poker player. Boeree emphasized how daily training in probabilistic thinking, a skill honed through poker, can improve decision-making and emotional discussions.
In other news, the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is set to introduce a new rule for eight of its tournaments. Players on the big blind will now have to post an ante for the entire table. This change is aimed at speeding up the game and reducing disputes over ante payments. The rule will be applied to various tournaments, including the $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em and the $1,000,000 No-Limit Hold'em One Drop.
Phil Ivey, a well-known poker player, is embroiled in a legal battle with the Borgata casino. The dispute centers around a 'unfair' win by Ivey, which the casino alleges was achieved through the use of defective cards. The case involves a Kansas-based company, Gemaco Inc., which produced the cards. The court recently dismissed five out of six charges against Gemaco, leaving the casino with a claim for the cost of the defective decks. The legal battle continues as both parties consider their next steps.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
