Phil Ivey's Poker Dominance: Betting Against the Legend
Phil Ivey's performance at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been nothing short of spectacular. This summer, during the WSOP, Phil Ivey entered the top 27 players in the main tournament three times. He even made it to the top 9 players in the main tournament. Despite his incredible success, some players are still willing to bet against him. One of them is Howard Lederer. During a recent Omaha tournament with a buy-in of 5000£ as part of the European WSOP series, Lederer bet 3-1 that Phil Ivey would not win two bracelets in the next two years.
Mike Matousov, who was at the same table as Lederer, had a different perspective. He stated that everyone who bets against Phil Ivey loses. Matousov emphasized that Ivey's performance is exceptional, noting that Ivey has not been a human in poker terms. He even joked that Ivey had sold his soul to the devil, highlighting the legendary status of the poker player.
Despite the bets and challenges, Phil Ivey continues to dominate the poker world. His performance at the WSOP has solidified his status as one of the greatest poker players of all time. As the poker community watches, the question remains: will anyone be able to bet against Phil Ivey and win?

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
