Phil Ivey's High-Stakes Golf: The Controversial Match
Phil Ivey, renowned for his high-stakes poker games, also has a notable career in high-stakes golf. Phil Ivey and other poker players participated in the World High Stakes Golf qualifying tournament. Eric Lindgren is considered the strongest golfer among poker players.
Phil Ivey initially struggled with golf but improved significantly over time. In January 2007, during the Aussie Millions, Ram Vaswani, Mark Goodwin, and Erik Sagstrom invited Phil Ivey to a golf match, giving him a 10-stroke advantage. Phil Ivey won the match, causing Ram Vaswani, Mark Goodwin, and Erik Sagstrom to lose significant amounts of money.
Ram Vaswani, Mark Goodwin, and Erik Sagstrom refused to pay their debts, claiming Phil Ivey had deceived them. The dispute was discussed during a break at the EPT final in Monaco, involving neutral judges Barry Greenstein and Martin de Kniff. The conflict was eventually resolved a year later, with a third-party judge ruling in favor of Phil Ivey.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
