Patrick Antonius: From Helsinki to Poker Stardom
Patrick Antonius was born in Helsinki, Finland. His journey to becoming a top poker player was anything but ordinary. Initially, Antonius pursued a career in sports, particularly tennis, before turning to poker. He started playing poker at the age of 14, initially with friends. After serving in the army, Antonius began playing poker regularly and won around $300 in his first tournament.
Antonius's big break came when he turned $200 into $20,000 in two and a half months, leading him to pursue a professional poker career. He learned from stronger players, including Erik Sagstrom, to improve his skills. In 2005, Antonius won over $1 million in a single tournament, placing second in the WPT Five Diamond.
Antonius's career is marked by significant wins and a unique approach to the game. His journey from a casual player to a professional is inspiring and showcases his dedication and skill.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
