Michael Addamo's Poker Slump: What Happened to the Aussie Pro?

Michael Addamo, the Australian poker sensation, has seen a significant downturn in his performance over the past five months. After earning nearly $12 million in prize money from September 2021 to August 2022, Addamo has not made it to the prize money in any live tournament since.

In a recent analysis, Daniel Negreanu discussed a hand from a Super High Roller Bowl tournament. The hand involved Addamo raising 4.5 big blinds with J5s, and Negreanu calling with Q8o. On the flop, Addamo continued with a minimal bet of 1 big blind. Negreanu then raised 8.5 times the initial bet, and Addamo folded.

Negreanu explained his decision to raise with a middle pair, citing principles of GTO (Game Theory Optimal) play. He noted that Addamo's aggressive play gives him clarity and initiative, making it difficult for opponents to know where they stand. Negreanu also mentioned that his raise prevents Addamo's hands from realizing equity, adding another layer of complexity to the analysis.
