Mattias Eybinger's Extreme Sleep Experiment for Poker Success

Mattias Eybinger, one of the most respected and successful MTT regulars, experimented with polyphasic sleep in 2015 to achieve the Supernova Elite status on PokerStars.

Eybinger initially aimed to achieve the Supernova Elite status in two months by sleeping only 3-4 hours a day. He invited two friends to help him maintain his polyphasic sleep schedule, which involved sleeping in 20-minute intervals throughout the day.

Despite the challenges and the eventual failure of the experiment due to a missed alarm, Eybinger achieved 40% of the required VPP points for Supernova Elite in just two weeks. He still occasionally practices polyphasic sleep in a less extreme form, allowing him to break up his sleep into smaller segments throughout the day.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
