From Reporter to Memory Champion: Joshua Foer's Incredible Journey
Journalist Joshua Foer attended the World Memory Championship at Oxford University, where he saw participants memorizing long lists of random numbers, names, faces, and poems. He learned that most top participants used the 'memory palace' technique, where they visualized absurd but vivid images associated with the information they needed to remember.
Inspired by this technique, Foer decided to spend a year mastering it and wrote a book titled Moonwalking with Einstein about his experience. At the U.S. Memory Championship in New York, Foer set a national record by memorizing a deck of cards in 1 minute and 40 seconds and won the championship.
Foer represented the United States at the World Memory Championship in London, where he finished 13th out of 37 participants. Despite his memory training, Foer still struggled with everyday tasks like remembering where he parked his car. His experience taught him that consistent, focused practice can lead to remarkable improvements in memory.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
