Jesse Lonis: The Poker Pro Who Lost $750,000 in the Bahamas and Kept Playing

Jesse Lonis, a professional poker player, recently lost $750,000 in the Bahamas but continued his poker journey. His life story is as intriguing as his poker career. Lonis grew up in Utica, New York, between Syracuse and Albany. His grandfather was a fan of the Oakland Raiders, and the family moved to Las Vegas in 2017.

Lonis' grandmother was a poker enthusiast, playing under the nickname Granny 44. She introduced him to the game at a young age, and Lonis quickly picked up the skills. His first recorded cash win was in a $20 tournament in Niagara Falls. However, his educational journey was not as smooth. He was expelled from Herkimer County Community College at the age of 19 or 20.

Despite the setbacks, Lonis continued to pursue his passion for poker. His unique journey and resilience make him a fascinating figure in the poker world.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
