Ivan Demidov Leads After Day 1 of Russian Poker Series

Ivan Demidov is one of the chip leaders after the first day of the main tournament at the Russian Poker Series in Kyiv. Most journalists are unaware of this, as the main events at his table unfolded near the end of the day. Timofey Vekshin also has a good stack. Out of 258 players, 162 remain.

A new record was set at the final table of the Poker Players Championship, an eight-game tournament with a $50,000 buy-in. Robert and Michael Mizrahi entered the Top-5. Patrick Antonius was rumored to be in on the deal with both brothers.

Phil Laak is streaming live from the Bellagio. Max Lykov failed to repeat his achievement from last year in a $5,000 shootout tournament. Jungleman12 won $1,274,434, the largest win among high rollers in May. Jared “harrington25” Blazeck came in second with $1,119,534. Tom “Durrrr” Dwan lost $2,140,123, the biggest loser of the month.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
