Isaac Hekston Shares Insights on Poker Career and Preferences
Isaac Hekston, a prominent poker player who has been a top player for over a decade, recently shared insights into his career and preferences in a podcast interview. Hekston, who lives on Malta, has a strong love for the game of poker and prefers live tournaments over online poker.
One of the main reasons Hekston prefers live tournaments is his concern about cheating in online poker. He mentioned that the strength of online opponents has increased significantly since 2016, making it difficult to distinguish between a highly skilled player and someone using cheating tools. Hekston also expressed concerns about the integrity of online poker rooms, stating that he would only participate if he were 100% sure of their honesty.
In 2023, Hekston played 115 unique live tournaments, with some lasting multiple days. He estimated that he played live poker for about 40% of the year. When not playing, Hekston spends time analyzing past games and preparing for future tournaments. He also watches streams of final tables from major tournaments, finding them valuable for gaining insights into his opponents' strategies.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
