Irish Poker Open 2024: HighStakes Players Compete in Dublin

The Irish Poker Open began on April 3rd in Dublin at the Royal Dublin Society. This event is one of the most eagerly anticipated on the live poker circuit, with a history stretching back 42 years. The action is running from April 3-10 with the €1,150 buy-in, €1,000,000 GTD Main Event starting today.

HighStakes sent three players to the Irish Poker Open Main Event: Jon “aduriz20” Samperio Gomez, Anthony “ThunderballsAK” Thunder, and Giorgos “Onbidea” Loukas. The three lucky players won a package to play in the prestigious €1 million GTD tournament through satellite events run by HighStakes.

Buy-ins range from €150 to €5,000 with something suitable for players of all abilities and bankrolls. Steve O’Dwyer, a high stakes crusher, made the trip and quickly claimed his “lucky” chair as the reigning champion.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
