Illinois Moves to Legalize Online Poker, Other Gambling Forms

Illinois is preparing to legalize online poker and other forms of online gambling. Illinois State Representative Bob Rita has introduced a bill to legalize online poker and other forms of online gambling in the state. The bill allows gambling operators to accept deposits from players outside the state, enabling collaboration with operators from other states where gambling is legal.

The bill also specifies that local regulatory bodies must implement these changes within 90 days of the law's passage, making Illinois the first state to swiftly transition from legislation to implementation.

Illinois will impose a $500,000 tax for the license, a $250,000 tax for its renewal, and an annual 12% tax on operators. All funds collected from these taxes will be directed to the state's gaming fund.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
