High-Stakes Poker: The Summer Slump and Key Players
The high-stakes poker world has seen a noticeable decline, especially during the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Victor Bloom and Phil Ivey, two prominent figures, have been facing challenges in online poker recently.
In 2013, MalACEsia emerged as a significant player in high-stakes games. Victor Bloom missed the WSOP that year, stating that he would need to finish in 5th place in the main event to match his recent earnings. Paul Phua was arrested in the summer of 2014, and his place was temporarily taken by samrostan.
Alex Millar discussed the decline of high-stakes cash games, attributing it to a lack of weak players and insufficient bankrolls among regulars. Phil Ivey played a significant session on Full Tilt in May 2015, where he lost $66k. Alex Millar won the second and third largest pots of the session, totaling $229k. Phil Ivey and Cort thecortster Kiibler-Melby engaged in a 2-7 Triple Draw game that lasted 9.5 hours. OtB_RedBaron won a significant pot against Kanu7, totaling $246,102.44. Phil Ivey won the largest pot of the year on PokerStars, amounting to $286,541.19.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
