Galen Hall's Six Months of Ups and Downs: Poker, Investments, and More

Galen Hall's life has been anything but ordinary. In December 2010, he sold 55% of his stake in five tournaments for $28,200. Just a month later, in January 2011, he won the main RSAP tournament on the Bahamas, earning a staggering $2,300,000. This victory marked a significant turning point in his career, leading him to shift his focus from poker to finance and investments.

Hall's foray into the financial world has been equally successful. His hedge fund, Dark Forest Technologies, is now worth approximately $1.7 billion. Despite his success in investments, Hall has not abandoned his love for poker and other games of chance. In January 2026, he won the Circa Survivor VI fantasy football tournament, setting a new personal record.

Hall's eclectic interests extend beyond poker and investments. In April 2026, he participated in the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, placing 557th out of 803 participants. He also shared his poker tournament diary on Twitter during the 2026 World Series of Poker, offering insights into his strategies and experiences.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
