Exploiting Poker Opponents Who Never Donk Bet

A player who calls a raise on the big blind should almost always check the flop in a multi-table tournament (MTT) when out of position against a preflop raiser. There are certain flops where the big blind's strategy includes a significant number of donk bets. If an opponent never donk bets, the strategy to exploit this involves understanding why they skip these bets and how they deviate from optimal play.

The solver's strategy for the big blind involves frequent donk bets on certain flops, such as a rainbow flop in a 20 BB stack MTT scenario. The big blind's equity drops from 50.7% to 45% after checking, and the advantage in nuts diminishes. If the big blind always checks, the button player also starts playing passively.

The solver's strategy is optimized so that deviating from it does not increase the opponent's expectation. Exploiting an opponent who never donk bets involves reducing the frequency of continuation bets. In an exploit strategy, the button player should check with their strongest hands and bet with a polar range.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
