ESPN Extends WSOP Contract for Seven More Years Despite Rating Drop
ESPN has extended its contract with Harrah's, the owner of the WSOP brand, to broadcast the World Series of Poker for another seven years, from 2011 to 2018. The current contract between ESPN and WSOP expires in 2010.
In 2009, the TV ratings for WSOP decreased by 8%. However, this decline followed a significant increase in popularity in 2008, when each WSOP broadcast averaged 1.13 million viewers. The concept of November Nine and the delayed final table contributed to a significant increase in viewership. The final showdown between Eastgate and Demidov attracted 46% more viewers than the Young vs. Lam match.
The main event of the WSOP will start airing in the US on August 18 at 8:00 PM local time.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
