Eric Persson's Epic Poker Blunder: Losing $862k with Jack-Four Offsuit
Eric Persson, the CEO of Maverick, recently made headlines in the poker world after losing a massive pot worth $862,000. The hand that cost him dearly was J♣ 4♥, a hand now famously known as “The Robbi” in honor of Robbi Jade Lew. Persson was playing in a $100/$200 game with a $200 big blind ante and a $400 straddle when he decided to get involved with his weak hand.
Persson's decision to raise to $18,000 with his J♣ 4♥ hand proved costly. Andy 'Stacks' Tsai, who held 10♣ 10♠, had flopped top set but didn't have to do much to get some money in the pot. Persson's betting and subsequent shoving for $394k effective left him with complete air, making “The Robbi” a massive underdog at just 5%. The turn and river cards, A♣ and 8♣ respectively, did not improve Persson's hand, leading to his significant loss.
Despite the loss, Persson remains one of the biggest whales in the current crop of livestreamed high-stakes games. In October, it was revealed that he was the 4th most losing player on Hustler Casino Live, with a $674,000 loss over just 3 sessions. The biggest winner on Hustler Casino Live was Garrett Adelstein, who boasted a $1.5 million winning graph across 53 sessions before “The Robbi” derailed his gravy train.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
