Eric Couto's Big Win: From Humble Beginnings to Poker Stardom
Eric Couto's journey to winning the Main Event at BSOP RIO 2024 is a testament to his dedication and skill in the world of poker. Couto's poker journey began when he was a child, watching his uncle play 5-card draw with friends and family.
Couto started his poker journey by winning a step tournament online for $16.50. This victory allowed him to secure a spot in the Mega Satélite, where he won and moved to the hotel for the event, even though he lived in Rio. Couto's first big win in the Main Event came after a challenging day 1 where he doubled his stack in the last level. Despite the difficulties, Couto's resilience and strategic play paid off, leading to his victory in the Main Event.
Couto turned professional during his college years, finding home games to be lucrative. His love for mixed games was influenced by watching his uncle play 5-card draw and Pedro Bromfman's WSOP 2022 victory. Couto considered quitting poker due to a significant downswing and the impact of the pandemic on live tournaments. However, he was encouraged to continue his poker career by Rodrigo “Ratão”.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
