Eli Elezra Inducted into Poker Hall of Fame: A Life of Contrasts
Eli Elezra, a renowned poker player, was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame on November 22, 2021. Born in Jerusalem in 1960, Elezra's journey to poker stardom is marked by a series of contrasting experiences.
Elezra's early aspirations were far from the poker tables. He aimed to become a professional military officer, specifically in the elite Israeli brigade Golani. However, his initial assignment to the Israeli Air Force led to a three-week stint in military prison after he refused to serve. Despite this setback, Elezra eventually joined Golani and participated in the 1982 Lebanon War, where he sustained a leg injury that ended his military career.
After leaving the military, Elezra moved to Alaska, where he worked as a fisherman and taxi driver. His stepbrother, a businessman, encouraged him to explore more lucrative opportunities. Together, they opened a photo studio business in Las Vegas, which eventually expanded into a chain of studios. However, the business faced numerous complaints and legal issues, with customers often feeling deceived by the pricing structure.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
