DraftKings Co-Founder: Prediction Markets Overhyped, Sportsbooks Shouldn't Worry
DraftKings co-founder Matt Kalish has expressed his views on prediction market platforms, stating that they are overhyped and behind in technology. In a social media post, Kalish criticized the sector, arguing that sportsbooks have nothing to fear from these emerging products. He believes that prediction markets are an extremely niche product, appealing only to professional gamblers, market makers, and exchange employees.
Kalish argued that the prediction market’s quality of product is not yet on par with regulated sportsbooks. He stated, "There’s not a single exchange product experience for normal people that is remotely close to delivering the caliber of experience the regulated sportsbooks do." He also mentioned that these platforms are years behind in developing their technology, and this is before factoring in any regulatory pressure.
Despite Kalish's criticism, DraftKings remains optimistic about the prediction market vertical. The company’s latest earnings report confirms that it will pursue growth in the sector.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
