Doug Polk's WSOP Main Event Day 2: Masterclass in Poker Strategy

Doug Polk, renowned for his mastery in heads-up poker, took on the WSOP Main Event's second day with a stack of 350 big blinds. His table included professional player Aditya Prasetio, who had a stack of 110 big blinds and was seated in direct position.

Doug Polk folded three times preflop and then found himself on the small blind with J4s. Aditya Prasetio called with 75s. On the flop, both players checked. The dealer was about to turn the card but discovered that the next card in sequence was already face down in the deck. After a brief pause, the dealer placed the ace on the turn. Both players checked again. The river brought the fourth club, and Doug Polk bet 2,300 into a pot of 6,800. His opponent thought long and hard before folding.

In another hand, Doug Polk opened with A3o from the button. Aditya Prasetio called with a suited connector, as did the player on the big blind. On the flop, Doug Polk received two checks and checked behind. The turn brought the 9♦, and all players checked. The river was the 4♦, and Aditya bet 3,000 into a pot of 8,000. The big blind folded. Doug Polk called, showing two pairs, and collected the pot. He then raised with JTs from the hijack, and all opponents folded. Doug Polk discussed microbreweries and his favorite beer, Live Oak, with his fellow players.
