David Power, Co-Founder of Paddy Power, Passes Away at 77
David Power, one of the founding fathers of Paddy Power, has passed away peacefully on Monday 8 July, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Born into what is now a bookmaking dynasty in 1947, David Power was always destined to be a bookie, moulded by a long lineage of odds compilers that stretches back all the way to Tramore racecourse in 1895. His mother is believed to have been the first woman to hold a betting license while the family’s successful on-course operation, named after his grandfather, Richard Power, was a mainstay at tracks until David’s fitting retirement after the 2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup.
David Power co-founded Paddy Power with Stewart Kenny and John Corcoran in 1988. Paddy Power was named after David Power's son, Paddy Power. Paddy Power listed on both the Irish and London Stock Exchanges in 2000. Paddy Power merged with Betfair in 2016, creating Flutter Entertainment.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
