Daniel Negreanu Loses Big in High-Stakes Poker After Dark
Daniel Negreanu, a six-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, faced a significant loss in a high-stakes poker game on Poker After Dark. The game, with a $40,000 buy-in, featured several notable players including Matt Berkey, Scott Seiver, MJ Gonzalez, Dan Smith, Jake Daniels, and Zach Frazi.
Negreanu, holding a 7 and a 5 (not suited), placed a bold bet of $17,500 after the flop. Zach Frazi, who held a suited 6 and 7, called the bet, and the two players ran it twice after declaring themselves all in. Unfortunately for Negreanu, the cards did not strengthen his hand, and Frazi emerged as the victor, winning over $50,000.
This loss sparked criticism from fans, who questioned Negreanu's decision to play such a seemingly weak hand. One YouTube commenter wrote, “Supposed to lose $0 with that hand, manages somehow to lose piles.” Another commented, “Daniel should NEVER have played that hand, much less 3 bet with it.” Despite the criticism, Negreanu's career earnings, which exceed $60 million, suggest he can afford such losses.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
