Colorado Bans Credit Cards for Gambling: New Rules Aim to Protect Vulnerable Bettors
Colorado has implemented new gambling rules that ban the use of credit cards for betting, aiming to protect vulnerable bettors. The new regulations also exclude e-wallets topped up by credit cards.
Senate Bill 26-131, passed in May by the Colorado General Assembly, enforces these changes. State Sen. Matt Ball, one of the co-sponsors of the bill, aims to protect vulnerable online sports bettors from the pernicious impact of gambling. The first reports on gambling expenditures will be issued on February 1, 2028, and every three years thereafter.
In addition to the credit card ban, the new rules introduce a limit on how much can be deposited in 24 hours on a rolling basis. Operators are required to inform consumers about the changes, helping to safeguard consumers at a time when gambling is picking up fast, and putting people at risk.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
