Bill Boyd: The Poker Legend Who Won WSOP Bracelets Four Years Straight

Bill Boyd is one of only three players in poker history to win WSOP bracelets four years in a row. Born in 1906, Boyd's journey to becoming a poker legend is as remarkable as his achievements.

Bill Boyd won his first WSOP bracelet in 1971 in a $1,000 five-card stud tournament. The following year, in 1972, he won a $10,000 five-card stud tournament with only two participants. In 1973, Boyd was the only participant in a $10,000 five-card stud tournament and automatically won. His streak continued in 1974 when he won a five-card stud tournament with eight participants.

Bill Boyd became the manager of the Golden Nugget poker club in 1946. His unique profile on Hendon Mob shows only four results, all of which are victories in five-card stud tournaments. Boyd's mastery in this discipline led players in Las Vegas to joke that he 'killed' the discipline with his skill.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
