Bar's Journey: From PokerStars Mods to Professional Layout Designer
Douglas, known online as Bar, started his journey in creating poker client layouts after discovering he could modify PokerStars graphics. His first layout modifications included adding a photo of a naked woman to the PokerStars table, which he found enjoyable and continued to experiment with.
Bar began creating layouts for others and eventually started selling them on a website. His layouts gained popularity, leading to requests from poker trainers for custom tables. He transitioned from changing backgrounds to creating minimalistic themes with dark backgrounds to reduce eye strain for grinders playing long sessions on multiple tables.
Bar's design skills were self-taught, starting with car painting and creating PowerPoint presentations. He initially worked alone but later formed a team of designers on his site Tiltbuster. His work with PokerStars began in 2005 when Lee Jones, then the chief manager, reached out to him. In late 2011, another manager, Steve, requested a layout similar to Full Tilt's, leading to the creation of the Nova layout.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
