Andrey Zgirovsky: Poker Changed My Life and Mindset

Andrey Zgirovsky began his poker career at the age of 20 while studying at university. He started working as a programmer at 17, but found the work unfulfilling and physically taxing. He decided to pursue poker professionally after realizing he could earn comparable money playing NL5.

Zgirovsky mentioned that the transition from NL1k to NL5k was the most challenging. He collaborated with GipsyTeam, which marked a significant breakthrough in his career. He never regretted leaving programming for poker, valuing the freedom and process of the game.

He switched from MTT to cash games to avoid the risk of prolonged losing streaks. Zgirovsky's poker journey helped him understand his mindset and improve his results. He struggled with tilting and had to learn to manage his emotions effectively. Zgirovsky still faces challenges with sticking to a schedule and doing tasks he doesn't feel like doing.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
