2014 WSOP Main Event: Jacobson Wins, Newhaus Finishes 9th
The final table of the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event was noted for its high level of play, with Mark Newhaus being considered the weakest player. The only amateur, Billie Papas, reached 5th place and earned over two million dollars despite not having strong preflop cards. Martin Jacobson won the tournament, showcasing his versatility and skill in both online and offline multi-table tournaments.
Yorrit van Hoof made a notable play by turning two pairs into a bluff on the river, shocking Antonio Esfandiari. Felix Stephensen, who finished second, is a regular in pot-limit Omaha and approached the main event professionally with a strong support team. For the first time in WSOP history, the top three positions did not include any American players.
Mark Newhaus finished in 9th place, earning $730,725, and expressed satisfaction with his performance.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
