WSOP Player Disqualified for Smoking and Pocketing Chips

A player was disqualified from the World Series of Poker for smoking and pocketing chips. The incident occurred during the $3,000 6-handed no-limit hold’em tournament at Paris Las Vegas. The WSOP released a video showing a man smoking a cigarette at the table.

The use of smoking devices in the poker room is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification from the tournament. The WSOP went smoke-free in 2002. Poker Hall of Famer Tom McEvoy was a key advocate for cutting out the cigarettes and stogies. Nevada does not ban smoking in casinos.

Despite the long-standing ban on smoking in the WSOP, this incident highlights the ongoing enforcement of the rules. The player's actions not only violated the smoking policy but also resulted in disqualification due to pocketing chips, which is against the rules.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
