WSOP Drama: Marked Cards, Famous Encounters, and Big Wins
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) recently hosted a PLO-8 tournament with a $1,500 buy-in, attracting 1,277 participants. Caleb Fert emerged victorious, securing $265,361 in prize money. This win was particularly notable for Fert, as it significantly boosted his career earnings, which had previously stood at $400,000.
However, the tournament was not without controversy. Mike Holz, who finished in 14th place, reported that all A234 cards in both decks were marked. This revelation led to a significant uproar, with other players and officials confirming the issue. Despite the initial dismissal by the floor manager, the organizers later announced an investigation into the matter, emphasizing the importance of game integrity.
In another high-stakes PLO-8 tournament with a $10,000 buy-in, Sean Troha secured a impressive win, earning $536,713. Troha's victory was particularly remarkable given that he started the final day with the shortest stack among the 13 remaining players. He defeated Tyler Brown in the heads-up round, with popular Brazilian players Joao Simao and Yuri Dziwielski finishing in third and fourth places, respectively. Notable players like Viktor Blom and Phil Ivey also made it into the money but were eventually eliminated.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
